Wild wines from northern Italy, crafted with expression - No compromise

San Lurins: Wines from the Borderlands

San Lurins is a small, family-run winery located in San Lorenzo Isontino, Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Revived by Marco Pecorari, a young enology graduate, this estate is rooted in generations of mixed farming and deep local tradition. With just a few hectares under vine, Marco produces a handful of low-intervention wines that embody the purity of the land and his scientific-meets-instinctive approach to winemaking.

A Legacy of Organic Farming

Marco’s philosophy is shaped by family legacy and a firm belief in organic viticulture. After his father converted the vineyards in the late ‘90s, Marco took over with renewed vision—treating each vine as a long-term companion. He tends the old Malvasia vines with minimal intervention, using grass cover crops, manual mowing, and natural treatments to preserve soil life and plant health. For Marco, quality starts in living soil.

A marine wine

When a close friend first tasted Marco’s Malvasia, they called it “marine.” That word stuck. The wine’s salty, mineral taste evokes the nearby Adriatic and the breezes that sweep across the Isonzo plain. This isn’t a gimmick—it’s terroir speaking. The name “San Lurins” pays homage to the village and this unique salinity that sets Marco’s wine apart. A tribute to nature’s imprint, and to instinct over formula.

The Terroir of San Lurins

The vineyards of San Lurins lie on the Isonzo plain, just kilometers from the Slovenian border. Here, red clay soils rich in limestone and minerals meet alluvial gravel, offering drainage and depth. The airflow from the Alps and Adriatic moderates temperatures and protects against disease, while the high organic matter nourishes the vines. This environment yields wines that are textured, vibrant, and unmistakably of place.

Local Grapes, Old Vines

Planted by Marco’s grandfather between 1969 and 1971, the old vines of Malvasia Istriana form the heart of San Lurins. These rare, regional grapes thrive in this unique terroir. Marco recently added Ribolla Gialla to blend with his Malvasia—honoring local tradition while innovating within it. The vineyards are farmed organically, and the surrounding fields are planted with grains, legumes, and fruits—all certified organic, part of a holistic farming vision.

Malvasia Pet-Nat: A Wild Sparkle

The estate’s flagship wine and a true expression of its philosophy. Made from old-vine Malvasia Istriana and bottled without disgorgement, it undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle, retaining its lees. The result is a lightly cloudy, saline sparkler with notes of grapefruit zest, wild herbs, and sourdough crust. It’s dry, lifted, and layered - equal parts raw energy and artisanal finesse.
