Cantina Antonioli - Natural wines from Loreto (Gubbio), Umbria – 600m above sea level
Grenache vines with 140 years of stories in their roots.
Cantina Antonioli: Mountain wines of rare purity
In the quiet hills outside Gubbio, at 600 meters above sea level, lives a vineyard that feels less like a farm and more like a living archive of time, soil, and soul. Cantina Antonioli is a small, family-run estate where minimal intervention isn’t a trend - it’s the natural way of things.
Here, we met Giorgio Antonioli, whose deep connection to the land is reflected in every detail of the vineyard. The crown jewel? A patch of Grenache vines that are over 140 years old - stoic, gnarled, and thriving. These aren’t just vines; they’re witnesses.

Steep slopes, gentle touch
Farming on Valtellina’s vertiginous terraces is labor-intensive by nature - but Antonioli turns that challenge into care. With no herbicides or synthetic treatments, the team works by hand to protect biodiversity and maintain healthy, living soils. It’s sustainability in practice: preserving the land so the wine can speak for generations.

The estate is divided by soil and spirit:
The “warm” side – Where the Ambratile and Agreste Elegante wines are born.
The soils here are mostly marl and sand, cracked and parched by the sun. These fractured grounds channel their stress into the fruit, giving rise to rich, generous, sun-kissed wines with warmth and presence.
The “cool” side – Home to Antimes and Grabovio.
With chalky, limestone soils peppered with glacial stones, these parcels offer excellent drainage and air for the roots - the result is fresh, mineral, precise wines with vibrancy and lift.

Minimal intervention,
maximum expression
Every step of Antonioli’s process is intentional, restrained, and honest. Farming is sustainable, treatments are minimal, and fermentation occurs with native yeasts. In the cellar, gravity flow and neutral aging vessels preserve the nuance of the grape and the voice of the vineyard. Nothing added, nothing masked. Cantina Antonioli is a hidden gem of Umbria, where history runs through the roots, and every bottle is a translation of its terrain - spoken in the dialect of Grenache, silence, and sunlight.

Terroir in extremes
The vineyards cling to steep granite slopes, catching sunlight and cool mountain breezes. Soils are shallow but mineral-rich, ideal for precision and longevity. This landscape demands manual labor and rewards it with elegant, vertical wines that reflect the austerity and grace of Valtellina.

Il Male Minore: Power in Restraint
Il Male Minore is a pure Chiavennasca wine fermented in concrete and aged in old oak. It opens with alpine herbs, sour cherry, and iron-rich minerality. Silky and lifted, with fine tannins and quiet depth, this wine is all about tension and transparency - a reminder that less can truly be more.
